Ashford Information

Ashford is a town in Kent. 'Ashford' means a ford nearby a bunch of ash trees. By road transport, Ashford centre is approximately 98 kilometres southeast of London. It is established at the crossing of the south verge in North Downs and the River Great Stour valley. St. Mary's Church has been an indigenous landmark of Ashford since the 13th century.

The town experiences around 750 millimetres of rain a year, though the municipality typically has less rainfall than areas closer to the North Downs. The area neighbouring the Stour and south of the station is disposed to flooding.

Ashford originally resembled many other settlements however it has matured in size and has merged with several small villages. Bockhanger, Kennington, Sevington, Singleton and Willesborough are several of these small communities. Moreover, housing estates have been established in open spaces such as the Bybrook, Kingsnorth, Godinton, Park Farm and Stanhope. Ashford has a population of over 70,000 people.

Ashford is a hub for communications. Since 19th century, five rail lines lie within its centre, which became a foundation of employment. It now serves as a communications centre for Europe, with the beginning of the global passenger station from London to the Chanel Tunnel

Ashford has acted on numerous government strategies for growth. Alterations have comprised the shopping centre, known as County Square, the renovation of the Repton Park's Templer Barracks and the Ashford Designer Outlet, an award winner. During the 1970s controversial schemes demolished important portions of the old town, although a few areas were saved and conserved.
